What is an Operating System & How Have They Evolved Over the Years?
When many people hear
the term operating system, they immediately think of the software that they
have on their computer, for example Windows 8. However, many people forget that
their smartphones use operating systems to perform everyday functions, such as
checking the weather or even playing a game. To put it into simple terms, a
mobile operating system is software that allows mobile phones, tablets and various
other devices to run programs and applications, as well as managing cellular
and wireless connectivity. (Rouse,
2011)
In this generation,
smartphones are our life lines and a study by Google shows that approximately
56% of Canadians use smartphones and 80% of these users don’t leave home
without their smartphone. (Barria,
2013) Imagine only using your cell phone to make phone
calls…how long would you last?
